Craft Ideas for Toddlers: Create Your Own Wrapping Paper!

Most toddlers love arts and crafts projects. At the same time, most parents wonder what to do with all of the arts and crafts projects that their toddler creates. Many parents would like to save these masterpieces, but as any parent of a toddler can tell you, saving each and every project can quickly overrun a small storage space! One solution to this dilemma is to have your child make things that can be useful.

One useful toddler craft idea is making customized wrapping paper. This is a fun project that is adaptable for many varying artistic still levels. Another nice thing about this making your own wrapping paper project is that it can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. Not many materials are necessary, but read on and you will see that the sky is the limit!

The materials you will need are pretty basic. The first thing you need is a roll of large format paper. Large format paper rolls are easily found online. You can choose from wide format engineering paper rolls, recycled paper rolls, translucent bond paper rolls, vellum paper rolls, or even color tinted paper rolls. These rolls come in many various sizes, as small as fifteen inches in width by one hundred fifty feet long all the way up to forty two inches in width by three hundred feet long. Take the attention span of your child and the amount of time you wish to spend on this project into consideration when choosing the size of the paper roll you wish to use. And remember, you probably will not fill up the whole roll of paper in one craft session, so this could be a great ongoing project, especially for the rainy season when you are trapped indoors!

The next thing you need for this project is things to decorate the paper with. This is where you have a lot of flexibility with this project. You can go the simplistic route and choose crayons or markers as your decorating medium. Crayons or markers are a wonderful choice because you do not have to wait for anything to dry and the mess is minimal. You can choose paint as your medium as well. Most children love to paint and if you choose paint as your decorative medium make sure you provide lots of different sizes of brushes, sponges, rollers, cotton balls, and other various applicators to create a wide variety of paint application techniques. Of course almost all children will resort to using their hands and fingers as well, but that is all part of the fun! The various applicators will also hold your child’s interest a lot longer than simply a paint brush or two. Choosing paint can be a lot messier than crayons and markers and you will have to do this project in segments to allow for the paint to dry. Beyond crayons, markers, or paint, you can also add various décor elements to this project, including glitter, sequins, stickers, stamps, and more.

While point of sale systems aren’t necessarily all that complicated, you still have to have some amount of technical savvy to operate them. Point of sale systems may involve a computer of some sort which you will need to be able to operate and troubleshoot to some extent. Point of sale systems also involve other pieces of technology that you may not have thought of such as credit and debit card verification machines. You will need to know how to change out the thermal or carbonless paper rolls on these machines and do some basic troubleshooting with them as well. While you may not need to be a technical wizard to open your own business, you should at least feel comfortable with technology and have some minimal technical knowledge and know how.

Is your business idea practical? This may be a tough question for a lot of people to answer because it can sometimes be difficult to be honest about things you feel very passionate about. However, this is one question you must take very seriously. If your idea for a business is not practical, you could potentially spend a lot of time and a lot of money on a business that is doomed for failure from the start. Smokers around the world are permanently putting out their traditional cigarettes and switching to a much healthier, safer, and greener (earth friendly) alternative. Besides the fact that traditional tobacco cigarettes are growing more expensive every day, a large percentage of the billion plus smokers around the world are choosing to pick up a more earth and health friendly cigarette. The eco-friendly option, e-cigarettes, is a small device that delivers an inhaled dose of nicotine through a vaporized solution. They are powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, and consist of the battery, an atomizer (that converts the liquefied nicotine into a vapor) or cartomizers, circuitry and a reusable plastic mouthpiece. The cartridges have varying amounts of nicotine, depending on preference (high, medium, low, or zero nicotine). All main parts can be recharged or reused, which reduces the waste normally produced by tobacco cigarettes in the leftover butts and packaging.

Electronic cigarettes are becoming so popular that some analysts predict that over the next ten years, approximately 40% of all smokers will buy electronic cigarettes online over the more conventional and harmful tobacco cigarettes. This new development of high tech cigarettes is better for your health and the earth and is expected to cut down on the staggering amount of pollution caused by smokers. Though there are not many cigarette related litter statistics, the impact on the earth can be roughly calculated. Chimney sweeping is a necessary chore for owners of a wood-burning fireplace. The sweeping and regular maintenance of your fireplace will keep it burning correctly and protect your home from unnecessary fires. Carbon monoxide poisoning can also result from a poorly maintained chimney. Chimney sweeping is not something a homeowner can learn to do easily and it is necessary to hire a properly trained chimney service.

A chimney sweep is a professional that cleans chimneys for a living. Chimney sweeping as an occupation is one of the oldest in the world. However, it is only in the last 200 years that chimneys have become big enough to hold a man inside them. Rooflines began to be designed to accommodate a chimneysweeper and the chimney sweep became a sought after and respected occupation.

Since many young boys were being exploited by chimney sweeps in Great Britain, the country began to enact laws to help protect boys from this. In 1788, Great Britain passed an act to limit a sweeper to six apprentices and required that they be at least eight years old. However, by 1840 it became illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to sweep chimneys. Finally, in 1875 legislation was passed that prohibited chimneysweepers to carry out business unless authorized by the police. At that time, they were required to have police permission, be at least 21 years old and have only one apprentice at a time.

There is a lot of interesting history surrounding chimney sweeps in the past. In Germany in 1937, the chimney sweep law was revised requiring that all chimneysweepers must be of German descent and gave them the power to enter houses with permission or court order to “check chimneys”. The intention was to use them as spies. However, this legislation is still in effect in Germany today and sweepers still exercise these powers.

Chimney sweeps are often unfavorably depicted in literature and folklore as filthy child abusers covered in black and wandering the streets. According to Victorian customs, it is good luck to see a chimney sweep on your wedding day and even better luck if you shake his hand or are kissed by him. Tradition also states that the term “light a fire under you” possibly came from the punishment of the young chimney sweep apprentice by the master. Oftentimes, the child was forced into the chimney and a fire was lit. Since they couldn’t come down, they were forced to climb up the chimney to escape.

When central heating systems became widespread in homes, the use of chimneys declined. Wood burning fireplaces became more about aesthetics and charm than about actually heating the home. Also, many people began installing electric fireplaces in their homes to cut down on environmental pollution and the expense of a traditional fireplace upkeep and maintenance. Electric fireplaces have become extremely popular in cold weather climates where people need constant supplemental warmth because they significantly cut down on costs and maintenance. Electric fireplace inserts can be put directly into an existing firebox and do not require the chimney – and therefore no chimney sweep services are required. Because of this, chimneysweepers have expanded their services to include venting for all types of heating appliances including natural gas and electric fireplace inserts. Some even install all types of new fireplaces, including electric.

If were adopted as a child, chances are you will become curious about your biological parents at some point in time. Perhaps you would like to know their medical history, or maybe you would just simply like to know who they are. Maybe you want to know what your biological parents look like or perhaps you wish to ask them some questions about their lives. Whatever the reason, making the decision to search for you biological parents can be a very emotional time in a person’s life. This decision is never an easy one and can prove to be very difficult and time consuming. Below are some ideas to help you in your quest for finding your birth parents.

The first thing you need to know about your biological parents to make your search infinitely easier is their full names. If you do not already have this information, you should start with trying to find this out first. You obviously cannot locate a person if you do not know that person’s name. There are several ways to go about this, but hiring a private investigator may be the easiest route. A competent private investigator will have experience in locating people and will also have time and resources that you may not have. Once you have the names of your birth parents you can continue to use the private investigator service you chose to find out where they may be located or you can continue your search on your own.

There are services called Mutual Consent Registries that act as a liaison in reuniting people that wish to be found. These people can be children who were adopted, parents who gave children up for adoption, siblings of adoptees, or many other types of people. The goal of registering with one of these services is that you hope to be matched up with the person or people you are looking for, in this case your birth parents. Obviously, your birth parents would have to register with the same service in order to be matched up with you. While it may sound far fetched, many birth parents and adoptees have been reunited using these types of services.

You may also want to consider joining an adoption support group. There are many wonderful groups online or groups that meet in person and you can find these communities by doing a simple internet search. Adoption support groups will not only offer emotional support, but you will be able to share ideas and resources with member of the group while they give you tips and advice in return. These groups can be really helpful because a lot of the members have been through what you are going through and you will not have to essentially start from scratch.

Another option you have is to petition for the services of a confidential intermediary (CI). This service will be costly, but if you have the financial means it may be worth the cost to you.

As I get older, I realize that there are more and more occasions where I am buying a gift for a couple instead of for just one of my friends or family. With events like showers, weddings, anniversaries, and house-warming parties the times when I’m searching for a gift suitable for a couple are really starting to increase. If you find yourself searching in vain for the perfect gift for the perfect couple, keep these tips and gift ideas in mind during your next shopping excursion.

If you are buying for a married couple or a couple who is about to get married buying personalized gifts is always a great idea. There are a plethora of gift ideas that can be personalized. One of my all-time favorite gifts to have personalized are glasses. Personalized glass is always fun to give and receive and is a very practical gift that you know will be used. There are so many different types of glasses that you can have personalized. Just go with the personal style of the couple you are buying for when deciding what type of glass to purchase. If the couple is heading off to Napa Valley for their honeymoon or their anniversary, it is safe to assume that they would love a nice set of personalized wine glasses. The Wonders of a Good Mattress

Recently, because of the misfortune of the downturn in the economy, my husband lost his job at the exact moment that we sold our house. Since we hadn’t already purchased another home and now couldn’t qualify for a mortgage, we were forced to move in with my parents. Being stay at home mommy in my 30’s with two kids, this wasn’t exactly the ideal situation. Nevertheless, we had no choice.

We moved in during the summer months thinking we’d be out before fall. For these reasons, we chose to put our furniture in storage and sleep on the bed in my parent’s guest room. This was a smaller bed than we were used to, but this for just for a short time, right? Well, that’s what we thought.

The bed was a full size and we were used to a queen so that took a little adjustment. Our feet hung off the end in an uncomfortable manner, but we got used to it. However, after a month or two I started to notice that I woke up with backaches, shoulder pain and a slight headache. I blamed this on allergies and stress. Another month went by and not only was this problem not getting better, but now I had insomnia too! It slowly started to dawn on me that the bed might be my problem.

I inquired to my parents about the age of this mattress and was told that they bought it sometime in the mid-70’s, probably before I was born. This makes this mattress over 30 years old. Research tells us that a mattress over 10 years old is probably not doing a good enough job supporting our joints and muscles – and this one was two decades past due.

I decided immediately that I needed to get our own bed and mattress put into this room. It didn’t look like we had a prospect of moving out anytime soon, so why continue to suffer each night. Sleep is the way we recharge ourselves. Its how my body prepares itself for the cooking, cleaning and lugging around my two rug rats and all of their stuff. I NEEDED a restful night’s sleep. It was imperative to my health and general well being.

We went deep into the depths of our storage and found our beautiful mattress with its thick memory foam pillow top. It was like it was calling to me. My husband and father set up our headboard and footboard and we got our box springs and mattress put into place. I did not realize how much bigger a queen-sized mattress really is compared to a full size. I made the bed with brand new sheets and our sorely missed soft comforter. I walked in and out of that room all day longing for the bed. I couldn’t wait for bedtime.

As soon as we got the kids to sleep that night, I rushed into our room. I scurried to get my pajamas on. I pulled back the covers and I crawled in. I laid there still letting the memory foam top react with my body heat to slowly engulf me with just the support my aching joints needed. It was bliss. I have never slept so well. I woke up in the next morning with the heaviness of the bedding weighing down on my legs and the support for the mattress supporting them from underneath. I don’t think I’d moved all night. I was frozen… frozen in support and beautiful, beautiful comfort.

Wine is quickly becoming an American passion. No longer is serious wine drinking and collecting limited to the upper class. As more countries open wine industries and existing wineries increase production to meet growing demand, even the prices of very good wines are coming down. With international shipping becoming more efficient and less expensive, it is possible for wines from any region to be easily available in any corner of the world. As more people pick up the hobby, the hobby becomes easier and less expensive to pick up, making the world of wine far less exclusive than it was just a few short decades ago. Along with all of the fabulous wines available to wine drinkers and collectors, a whole world of accessories has been created to reflect people’s enthusiasm over their new hobby.

Perhaps nothing shows the growing mainstream acceptance of the wine culture as much as the availability of wine-themed clothing. Recording Studio Acoustic Treatments

If you’ve ever watched a singer in a recording studio on television, you may have noticed that they are enclosed in a room that is separate from all the recording equipment and the producer. The most obvious reason is that they want the recording equipment to only pick up the singer’s voice and not any sounds made by other people in the studio. The less obvious reason is that the actual studio is designed to be almost sonically invisible. In other words, the room acoustics are minimized by room acoustic treatments in the room where the singer is recorded.

The goal of a studio recording is to isolate the singer’s voice and to get a perfectly clean recording. After that, the producer can add digital effects, backing vocals, or what have you with all of their equipment. It is much easier to add modifications than to take away acoustic artifacts. In a recording studio, the first acoustic treatment you might notice is a screen between the singer and the microphone. This is designed to eliminate the pops we make when we use certain consonant sounds; those sounds that start with a small explosive outburst of air, like p, d, t and a few others. The rush of air from the singer’s mouth would strike the microphone and be picked up by the sensitive equipment. A small fine screen blocks the pops, but let’s the voice come through cleanly.

Other recording studio acoustic treatments are not quite so noticeable. The walls and often the ceiling of the recording studio may be lined with acoustic insulation. Acoustic insulation may be a soft foam with a very irregular surface to absorb sound waves and prevent coherent echoes from reflecting back from the walls and other solid surfaces in the room. Acoustic insulation may also be a rigid fiberglass acoustic panel, designed to slow and absorb sound waves as they pass through it to the wall behind, and then absorb whatever echo is left as it bounces back off the wall and tries to re-enter the room.

This second kind of acoustic wall panel is often used in fancier recording studios where they are concerned about appearance as well as function. They can be upholstered and decorated with patterns or colors that make the room more attractive than irregular soft-foam padding. The rigid panels are often used, because of their aesthetic properties, for home theater acoustic treatments in private homes as well, although they may be used more sparingly in just a few problem spots in residential applications.

The goal of all these recording studio acoustic treatments is to remove the room acoustics from the final product that reaches the microphone and gets recorded. Echoes, reverberation, and other room artifacts should be completely absent from the final product. While in the old days, they might have used a special echo chamber for some effects, these days, everything can be added electronically and controlled much better by a competent producer.
